Online batik catalogue with a motif explorer, inquiry list & trade accounts

A catalogue for a batik workshop in Lasem that sells to boutiques, hotels and interior studios. Motifs are drawn in code in four dyes, pieces can be filtered by motif, technique and colour, and a buyer's picks collect in an inquiry list that goes out as one WhatsApp message.

Challenge

This workshop of eleven makers took orders from boutiques and hotels through photos posted in WhatsApp groups. Buyers kept asking the same things: which motifs exist, whether the colour can change, how long a piece takes, and whether shops get a trade price.

Solution

The layout follows a large furniture catalogue: a centred serif logo, a full-width photo of a canting at work, then four ways in by use (to wear, for the sofa, for the table, for the wall).

The motif explorer draws kawung, parang, truntum, mega mendung and watu pecah as SVG in four dyes: soga brown, indigo, Lasem red and natural ground. Each motif has its origin, a short story and how it is worn, and links straight to its pieces. A process slider takes the same swatch through nyorek, nyanting, medel, nyoga and nglorod.

The 18-piece catalogue filters by category, motif, technique, dye, natural dyes and ready-to-ship stock. A loupe shows the fine dots and lines of the cloth, product pages list size, cloth, technique and making time, and pieces go into an inquiry list that becomes one WhatsApp message. A trade form drafts the message for shops that want wholesale prices.
